Delta Woman passed After Alleged Surgical Error at Eku Hospital
Mrs. Anesther Egede, a mother of three, died today after complications from an appendectomy at Eku Baptist General Hospital, Delta State. According to her husband, Godson Egede, doctors allegedly left a large piece of cotton wool inside her abdomen during surgery
After the operation, her health declined—she couldn’t pass stool for two weeks and suffered severe abdominal pain. An MRI at a different hospital revealed the foreign object. The hospital’s medical director reportedly offered free corrective surgery, but the same team performed it again. Her condition worsened, and she died the next day.
The family has petitioned several authorities, accusing the hospital of negligence. The lead surgeon, Dr. Emmanuel Ebom, denied the claims, saying she died at another hospital. The hospital’s management has not publicly accepted responsibility, citing the matter is now in court.
